This rare South Jersey decorated vase containing an 1849 half dime in the hollow knop of the stem. This is from the estate of noted early glass collector Gretchen Keuffel Keller (1885–1974). The bulk of her collection is in the Peabody Essex Museum with a few other pieces in the Metropolitain Museum of Art. Here is a link about her - http://www.antiquesandfineart.com/articles/article.cfm?request=223 This vase was special to her and she kept it in her family where it was now let go by her grandaughter. Coin pieces from New Jersey are very rare and this vase is one of only two known examples. The other is in Wheaton Village Museum and has damage. It is also shown on the cover of the book Glass Gaffers of New Jersey A very important piece from New Jersey circa 1850. Undamaged. Height 8.25 inches. Non-lead glass.
